Sunset at Sabino Canyon

When Lily and Chris reached out to me about an engagement session, they shared how the outdoors have been such a big part of their love story! They are both avid runners and love exploring the desert together, so of course we had to have a fun session surrounded by cactus and mountains! Sabino Canyon was the perfect location, as it was one of their favorite areas to hike and run.

They would have loved to have brought their dog to our session, but unfortunately dogs aren't allowed at Sabino Canyon. For anyone wondering if dogs can be included in their photos, that is a big YES from me! There's lots of other locations throughout Tucson that allow dogs such as Gates Pass, certain trails at Saguaro National Park, and Catalina State Park. I have two corgis who I love including in our annual family photos!

Here is some other good to know information about Sabino Canyon as a photoshoot location:

  • Dogs are NOT allowed

  • Restrooms are only available between 8 AM - 4:30 PM. They have had problems with vandalism so they restrict access outside of those times.

  • There is an $8 National Park entrance fee

  • The bugs can get pretty annoying close to sunset so bug spray is definitely a good idea!

  • Always bring water!

  • The locations I love at Sabino Canyon are pretty easily accessible, there are tons of trails that are well maintained and mostly flat. I would still recommend comfy shoes as opposed to heels, but you can always bring sturdy shoes to walk in at first and then throw on heels once we get to a pretty spot!

  • I usually have clients search "Sabino Canyon Visitors Center" in google to easily get directions to the location, and then we meet at the parking lot!

We ended our session with the most beautiful light from the sunset. There is nothing more perfect than a madly-in-love couple who trusts me to beautifully document their personality and love story!
